Where Did All Our FREE BAT Come From?

When we first decided to buy our first piece of Bitcoin, the opening of a Coinbase account, deciding on a safe wallet, trying to decipher simple instructions with big words I did not know the meaning of, the whole process was confusing and at times over whelming.

I felt I needed some guidance if I was going to get my head around it all. We subscribed to crypto newsletter and that was where I first heard about the Basic Attention Token.

It was April 2018 and the Basic Attention token had a market value of $AUD0.26.

The report also discussed the Brave Browser and that you could download it from the Basic Attention Token site. At the time I didn't realise the significance of the Brave Browser. Our attention was focused purely on collecting cryptos.

Brittrex and Binance Exchanges

From May 2018 to July 2019 I traded the BTC-BAT pairing on Brittrex and later on Binance.

An example of a series of BTC-BAT trades on Binance between August 02 2018 and November 10 2018

Buy BTC 0.00757914 Sell BAT 177.00 exchange rate @0.00004282

Then you just waited for the market to come to you. Once the trade was executed, you checked the charts and took a guess whether the trend was up down or sideways.

Buy BAT 213.00 Sell BTC .00760197 exchange rate @0.00003569 (mark-down 16.7%)

Buy BTC 0.01101240        Sell BAT 213.00 exchange rate @0.00005175 (mark-up 45%)

Buy BAT 252.00 Sell BTC 0.01101240 exchange rate @0.00004370 (mark-down 15.6%)

Brave

With this example, we started with 177 BAT and ended up 252 BAT. Resulting in a net gain of 75 BAT or 42.37% increase in the size of the BAT pile.

Note: The markup (and markdowns) for the BTC-BAT pairings ranged form 10%-75%, depending on the trend direction and volatility.

The idea was not to try and generate a source of income where you are forced to make the trades execute on a regular basis or close them prematurely. But just end up with more BAT or BTC in your pile.

I didn't have any losses on trades and had a few big wins. As the trades either ended up on the BTC side or the BAT side of things, it is impossible to say if I ended up with more BAT than I started with. So fo the purposes of this exercise I won't try to work out the BAT gained from the trading.

The only risk I saw was having the crypto on the Binance exchange and had already started to withdraw the various cryptos to the safety of the Ledger Nano when Binance had their hack. Luckily the Hack wasn't big enough to sink Binance and it wasn't long before I was able to keep withdrawing the stash to safety.

Coinbase Earn

Coinbase Earn allows users to earn cryptocurrencies, while learning about them in a simple and engaging way. The idea is for users to understand more about an asset's utility and it's underlying technology, while getting a bit of the asset to try out.

The BAT educational videos became available on Coinbase Earn about February 2019. Coinbase Earn paid you $US1 worth of BAT each for watching the 3 educational videos and $US8 worth of BAT for downloading the Brave Browser.

Brave

On March 05 2019 I earned 58.82352944 BAT for completing the tasks on Coinbase Earn. At the time the market value on Coinbase was $AUD0.26.

Brave

On April 29 my wife earned 26.67636234 BAT for completing the tasks on Coinbase Earn. At the time the market value on Coinbase was $AUD0.53. As the market value of BAT had doubled since March 5th the amount of BAT received had decreased by half.

Due to the demand the original supply of FREE BAT on Coinbase Earn run out after a couple of months.

AAX Earn has more BAT to give away for watching the Basic Attention Token educational videos and answering the simple quiz question.

How To Earn $10 in Basic Attention Token – Right Now

Posted March 12, 2020. You will need to be quick to get the latest FREE BAT from Coinbase Earn as the supply of free tokens will run out.

My advice is that you need to create an account with Coinbase so that you can participate in any existing free token giveaways and all future promotions. Due to the high demand for free tokens, it is important to be one of the first to go on the waitlist. It also pays to follow Coinbase on Twitter and other channels so you are one of the first to hear about any new launch on Coinbase Earn.

If you want to join Coinbase Earn to earn FREE tokens , you can use my wife's Coinbase Earn referral link

A simple Step By Step Guide is explained in the following article:

My first attempt at publishing on Publish0x was a tongue in cheek piece about my wife, Coinsbit Earn and how watching the educational videos introduced my wife to Brave Browser and BAT.

Twitter Tips

Once you become a Brave verified publisher. People can tip you on your channel. They just click the BAT triangle at the bottom right hand corner of your tweet and can choose 1BAT 10BAT or 20 BAT.

I have verified Github, Reddit and Twitter channels. But I am only really active on the Twitter channel.

I have a received a 0.95 BAT tip from Philip Taramai @JustABlokeNZ., for my Tweet about Golem (GNT).

That was my one and only real live fair dinkum tip. My wife has tipped 16 BAT to my Twitter account with the net result of 15.2 BAT in the Uphold Twitter account.

Note: There was a 5% commission that came off the 1 BAT tip, hence the odd amount.

Brave Referral Program

Brave runs a referral program where they pay you $US7.50 to $US1.00 for each new user you refer. They need to use your verified channel referral link to download and install the Brave Browser. After 30 days of using the Brave Browser your referrals become confirmed and qualify for payment.

If you are not already using the Brave Browser please use my referral code to download and install the Brave Browser. And you too can start earning Free BAT.

As you can see in the Month of April I had 7 Downloads and 4 Installs. After 30 days has elapsed the dashboard will show them as confirmed. On April 09 15.63 BAT was deposited in to my Uphold Brave Browser wallet.

Brave

What is the difference between Download, Install and Confirmed?

  • Downloads: Increments if a user you referred downloads the Brave Browser using your referral code.
  • Installs: Increments when a user opens the Brave Browser for the first time.
  • Confirmations: A referral confirmation is any user who downloads Brave from your referral page and proceeds to use the browser for a minimum of 30 days since the browser was first opened. Your referrals must reach confirmed status in order for you to earn the associated BAT reward.

Brave

Next payment due is 34.85 BAT, which are from the March Download/Installs. There is a 2 month time delay from Download/Install to payment, so the April Download/Installs will get paid in June.

Each of the cards in Uphold wallet represents an account. There is also one called BraThe Payout Progress amount of 34.85 BAT was transferred May 9th to Uphold Wallet. Uphold sent an email advising

You received 34.85011467851506 BAT from Brave Software International.

Sponsored Images

This is a BlockFi Sponsored Image. BlockFi are regular Brave advertisers.

Brave

When there is a promotion running the Sponsored Image appears on every 4th new page tab.

With Sponsored Images, 70% of the ad revenue is paid to you, this is the same as the Brave Rewards. But the Sponsored Images is paid separately from the Brave Rewards, at the end of the month.

It has been impossible to determine what the total value is for the Sponsored Images, as it goes into the same uphold account as other earnings. Also you would need to keep track of how many Sponsored Images (New Page Tabs) you viewed in a month to calculate a value per Sponsored Image. But I assume it is minimal compared to the targeted Brave Rewards ads. I did read somewhere when Sponsored Images wasfirst announced that it was never intended to be a big earner, more of a little bonus.

For the purposes of this exercise we will disregard Sponsored Images, it will get counted in with the Brave Referral program or Brave Rewards.

Brave

Promotional BAT Token Grants

These are one off promotional grants of BAT tokens.

The initial promotion in December 2017 had a cap of 300,000 tokens and was distributed to current and new Brave users over a 30 day period. This promotion was a one-time grant of BAT.  Once accepted by users, the BAT was displayed in their Brave Payments wallet. Specifically, it was available for:

  • Users who had not installed Brave, but downloaded it during the promotion;
  • Users who browse with Brave, but had not yet enabled Brave Payments;
  • Users who had enabled Brave Payments, but had not added funds to their wallet; and
  • Users who had enabled Brave Payments and who already had funds in their wallet.

Brave wallets at the time were unidirectional (users could not transfer BAT out of their Brave wallet, its sole purpose was to contribute to publishers), and the BAT promotion was meant to support publishers of the user’s choosing. If the BAT promotional grants were not used within 90 days to support publishers (i.e. tip content creators), they were automatically returned to the User Growth Pool (UGP). These can not be used to tip yourself.

Early 2019 after installing the Brave Browser I received at least a couple of promotional grants of 15 BAT tokens.  Then one grant of 20 BAT tokens later in 2019. Didn't really know what to do with the 15 BAT tokens and they got returned to the UGP.

By the time I got the grant of 20 BAT tokens, I thought had worked it out. As you can't use the grant tokens to tip yourself, simple tip my wife's Portuguese/English Translation Service website:

liario.com

Brave

Sounded simple, so I tipped the website. Had 90 days to verify the website as a Brave Publisher before the grant tokens got returned to the UGP. We both tried over a number of days to get the website verified but we always got stuck attaching a message in a file. It was possible that the version of WordPress did not match with the Brave Browser. Had no trouble adding her Twitter account but was too late to retrieve the grant tokens.

But should we receive any more promotional grant tokens, we will be ready this time.

Big Bad Brave Rewards

It is really only this year with the installation of version 1.2 that the Brave Rewards started to work and began getting the Brave ad notifications.

While I had Ads Settings on the maximum of 5 ads per hour. I seem to only get 1 sometimes 2 ads per hour.

Brave

How many ad notifications you get will depend on:

  • How many Active Ad Campaigns are running in your country. Australia has 35 ads running at the moment, where as Lithuania has only 1 running.
  • Your browsing activity. If you are not continually opening New Page Tabs, then you will not have any browsing activity.
  • What you are browsing matches the Ads Campaigns parameters.
  • How much time you are on the Brave Browser each hour. As I use 2 ARK Faucets and do my tipping on Publish0x on my mobile, I only tend to be on my mobile for short bursts every hour. I spend longer periods on my laptop but usually only once or twice per day.

Brave Ads — Supported Countries (Active Campaigns)

Brave

Tip: I try and generate more ad notifications on my mobile every time I am on it, I open about 15 New Page Tabs with the url of ads I have seen recently. The idea is to create a browsing history that matches the ad campaigns in your country. For example if you have been getting ads for VPN providers lately then I would use:

  • nordvpn.com
  • get-express-vpns.com
  • ultravpn.com
  • protonvpn.com

This seems to work as I have had VPN ads shortly after doing this. Other examples ads appearing have been

  • shapeshift.com
  • skillshare.com

And there also seems to be more ad notifications. Before I would only get 1 per visit now I get 2-3. I am spending longer per visit.

Extra bonus is you are also getting more Sponsored Images.

Brave

Currently have 67.5 BAT in my mobile wallet. Lost about 10 BAT when I tried to claim the April rewards, assume they have gone to BAT heaven. Got no idea what the 20 BAT showing relates to as it did not match what was in showing in settings.

Also lost 4.9 BAT due to the Auto-Contribute Bug that took all the rad earnings for the month of January. Have contacted support as per instructions but have never heard back or refunded the 4.9 BAT.

One day it will work as it is meant to.

Publish0x Tipping and Posting

February and March 97% of the tips by value were BAT   âœ”️

April and May it has dropped to 25% of tips by value are BAT   âŒ

And apparently the total value of tips available per day has dropped by 40% (not verified just hearsay)   âŒ

But to counter that my postings are getting more views and I have had 3 posts make the popular sections   âœ”️

The Grand Total of FREE BAT

Brave

Thats makes it a Grand Total of 422 BAT and a bit. I don't even want to think about what that equates to in $AUD. A lot of effort for Sweet FA?? But it has been funn, I have learnt heaps along the way. My wife now is supporting me in my efforts to collect crypto while we still can.

One other thing I forgot to mention.

Coinspot is an Australian based exchange, deposits are in $AUD only.

  • charge a flat 1% buy commission
  • large range of tokens listed, at least all the ones we collect
  • can deposit $AUD5-5,000 daily.
  • with $AUD5 we can buy $AUD1 of 5 different tokens and still only get charged 1% commission.

The only reason I mentioned this as it demonstrates that it is sometimes better to earn the fait if you can and just buy the BAT. I know it's a nice feeling to think you are getting something for free. But it is not really free, it took us over a year to accumulate about $AUD125 worth of FREE BAT. But I was able to earn from PureProfile surveys $AUD325.33 in 10 months. It worked out about $AUD9 per hour for your time. Compare that to Publish0x where I earn between $0.20 and $2.50 per hour depending how successful the post has been.

The End.

I never know where it will end up when I get an inspiration to write something. But I just go with it and see what transpires. At 11 minute read, this is a long one, you have done well if you made it to the end.
I hope you found this post interesting and informative. I always enjoy doing the research and putting it all together.
Feel free to post comments, as getting feedback is how we learn. And as a publisher all feedback is greatly appreciated.
Or a thumbs up if you enjoyed your read.

Why I Don’t Expect The Coronavirus to Affect BAT or Brave

Why I Don't Expect The Coronavirus to Affect BAT or Brave

The coronavirus outbreak has shaken the global economy. Almost half of the world is in lockdown. The stock markets are all going downwards. The cryptocurrency market was also hit hard and lost over 25% of total capital. But some projects have made gains even in this situation. These are primarily pharmaceutical companies and online businesses.

The Basic Attention Token was also hit and went down below 10 cents after which it recovered back to 17 cents. The Brave Browser on the other hand was quite successful in gaining new users. Many users may feel that the market situation is uncertain at the moment. However, I do not see it that way. Let me highlight some updates and show why I don't expect the Coronavirus situation to affect BAT or Brave Browser.

Even though the token price is down, the majority of performance indicators show consistent growth in all aspects of the browser. The brave browser added over 1 million users in March 2020. Des Martin, Head of Brave's Marketing Department revealed the stat on his twitter timeline:

3143414223-538861153d026b06c3b5e223bdfeda3a360b514e3a7fd79de3c39f94fbd9e300.png

At the time of writing, the number of verified creators who joined Brave in the last 30 days was 67,639 creators, a 14% increase. Brave sent 12 million tokens worth about 2 million US dollars to uphold wallet.

Brave's director of Business Development, Luke Mulks said the money was meant for referral payments. This correlates with the growth statistics mentioned by the marketing head, Des Martin. Brave now has 13.5 million monthly active users and 4.3 million daily active users.

But Brave's most significant achievement in recent days isn't the growth of the platform. It is the newly released Android version that is built from scratch. The release announcement says:

"This new version is a seamless transition for Brave users as the user interface remains the same, but it does provide performance enhancements such as battery savings (5%), as well as CPU and data savings (3%), compared to the previous version (1.5.9).

These savings are additional to the savings that Brave already realized when compared with major browser vendors (30%-50% bandwidth and battery reduction compared to Chrome, Firefox, and Opera)." – Brave.com – Rebuilt Brave Android

You might wonder, why is this a big deal? Even bigger than 1 million+ users? The answer to that is, quality. This update will noticeably improve the user experience of Brave users. If the brave team works hard to ship a high quality product, gaining more users by marketing it would be a much easier task.

The internet browser market is huge. The United States alone has around 128 million android users. Brave's growth potential will increase dramatically if its services are better / superior to its competitors (Chrome, Firefox).

If you don't have it yet, you should definitely give it a try by downloading it from here. Who doesn't love 5% savings in battery life? I assume most of you who are reading this blog either use brave or chrome. I used to use chrome too! before switching to brave.

Now chrome is my secondary browser on my android smartphone. The core code of Brave is open source and hosted on Github. You can post an issue there if you face any bugs / problems.

So, my conclusion is that COVID-19 has zero impact on Brave. The lockdown has actually increased web browsing activity which is good for a browser software like Brave.

HUGE Amazon Uses Brave Ads

[HUGE] Amazon Uses Brave Ads

Hello again fellow BAT lovers, I come bearing some more good news for you. We are all in a strange spot in the market, so any little good news is much appreciated.

If you’ve read even a few articles that I’ve written about Brave and BAT, then you’ll know that I’m a huge fan. I’ve recommended the Brave browser to everyone here and in my personal circles, and I’m proud to say that they’re all really digging the browser.

Fortunately, for you guys, this good news is a pretty big deal. This comes courtesy of my friend in Germany who sent me a screenshot of an AMAZON ad that was on Brave.

Amazon Brave

I wasn’t quite convinced of it at first glance, thinking it was just some Amazon affiliate on Brave Ads – there are affiliate ads already running in the US. Anyway, me being the enthusiast that I am, asked him to check the ad out so that I could see what it was. The ad took him to this page:

351665157-3e3e588a1c61e8db40d3aa5cdcc5afdf1011248d9813430edddbc3a891d65c16.jpeg

After that, I was curious, what with Amazon already showing some interest in the Brave program (BAT is now redeemable on Amazon and many other platforms), so I asked him to send me the redirect URL, which is:

https://www.primevideo.com/?tag=braveuk0d-21

Notice the URL? It doesn’t have the affiliate string, which means that this is through and through an Amazon run ad. It’s amazing to see one of the biggest companies in the world (and AMAZON on top of that, for which you see an endless number of ads) use Brave Ads. I think it is a real validation of what Brave is trying to do as well as the effectiveness of the whole service.

My friend also just sent me another screenshot that all but confirms that Amazon is on Brave Ads.

351665157-5ca358b7cf908b65a2a3923a0167e102cb752c7e154899b9d38350e30ec5893e.png

The redirect URL shows you that this is a page with various merchants, so it’s not an affiliate. Here's a screenshot of the page:

351665157-81d164c5a7209b9303245633c604a325d0c2f14e33d3ef7b7f2c10be46e4f73e.png

Coming back to the tag in the URL string, “tag=braveuk0d-21”, shows that Amazon is testing Brave ads to see how it does. The UK bit makes me think that UK is one of the markets for these ads.

Amazon somewhat on board? I think so!

Turning Point for Brave and BAT

This is probably something Amazon is testing to see how much they can get out of this. But even that is a big milestone for Brave, which has risen incredibly both in terms of adoption and ecosystem expansion in such a short span of time.

If we begin to see more Amazon ads on Brave Ads, then it probably means that the ads have met Key Performance Indicators and they’re happy with what they’re getting out of it. They're testing their services via Brave Ads and surely they must believe that there is potential, otherwise they would not even consider trying it (it's Amazon, after all). If from a few months now Amazons ads continue to show up, then it's a sign that their ads performance indicators like return on ad spends are showing good numbers.

This is going to be the big turning point for BAT, as a major entity is confirming its belief in the program and that will almost immediately rope in more entities. It's a huge seal of approval.

Now I think Amazon even trying this is a big thing, but as we see more advertisers joining, and the continuation of ads by the likes of Amazon, we will see BAT and Brave explode in terms of price and adoption respectively. Just having big well known names joining the ecosystem (and Brave itself has been receiving great reviews) bodes extremely well for BAT’s value. It’s kinda like how Tesla’s stock went up after it was announced that their production numbers had been delivered. When people see BAT clicking with advertisers and doing as it was expected to do, the token’s price will go up.

So let me know if any of you (whichever country you may be in) are seeing Amazon ads.
