5 Social Media Mistakes You Need to Stop Doing Right Now

By now, every business should have an online presence, however, there’s still a big amount of businesses that do not. If you’re one of those businesses that aren’t currently on social but interested in whether you should take the move or not, then I suggest you get creating those social profiles right after this article!

As we all know, there are a lot of perks of having social profiles for your business. You have more opportunities to connect and build a relationship with your prospects, customers, and those that want to receive the latest news from you. This could be your next sale or even a new product. Other perks include allowing people to contact you directly via social media, offering support to your customers and prospects etc.

Like with most things, when there’s something good involved, then can be something bad or risky. In this case, there are a few risks that you need to be aware of when using social media for your brand. In this article, I’ll be covering 5 mistakes that I’ve seen quite a lot of companies do, and how you can prevent these issues from occurring.

1. Not engaging with your followers.
I’ve seen a large number of company social media accounts ignoring their followers and posting content ignoring those that engage with it. By this, I mean when someone comments on their social post, or even directly tweets them, the company won’t respond and ignore it like as if they hadn’t seen it.

What does this portray to their audience and that specific person? The brand doesn’t engage with their audience and shows they don’t really care much. Some may disagree, but in my opinion, it seems quite ignorant.

If someone comments on your social post saying “Thanks! Nice article, I enjoyed it.” You could at least reply with something along the lines of “Thank you for the comment <Person’s name>, we’re glad you enjoyed it!”. If you wanted to go even further, you could add something else to that like, for example, “We’d love to hear your thoughts on this article? <Link to article>”.

It doesn’t take much to reply to a message/comment, and if you do it right, you may receive more engagement and see your follower/fan base grow, because it shows you engage with your audience.

To engage your followers even more successfully, you can start using a social listening tool like Brand24. It tracks in real time all mentions of predefined keywords relevant to your business. This allows your fast reaction to conversations about your brand even without the official handle. How cool is that? You can give it a free try for two weeks.

2. Only focussing on sales.
Honestly, your followers aren’t following you to be sold to every single post you publish. If they are, you must be doing something amazing. But no, companies that only focus on selling via their social media profiles won’t perform as well as the bigger names out there.

Let’s look at ASOS Menswear Twitter account, straight away their last tweet is a complete guide to coats, which links to their blog. The ASOS Social Media accounts do very well. Why? Because they aren’t selling in every social post they publish. They provide tips, guides, engage with their audience and then, of course, the sales posts every now and then.

There is one thing in common with most of the successful performing brands on social media, and that is the fact they follow the 80/20 rule.

3. You’re on too many social sites.
With the amount of social media platforms out there, it’s almost impossible to be active on every single one. Creating an account on a social media platform and letting it sit there as you no longer use it is a very big mistake. I’ve seen it happen numerous amount of times. It’s not good. Especially if someone goes and leaves negative feedback on it.

In order to prevent this from happening, you need to identify what social media platforms would best suit your audience and then focus on those.

When you have a handful of accounts on various social media platforms, managing them becomes easier.

4. You aren’t posting often.
Not posting often on your social media profiles is also another mistake you want to avoid. I’ve seen accounts, and not just a few, but a large amount that haven’t posted in over 2 months. What does that show? They don’t care much about the networks, their audience, they don’t have time to engage with their fans etc. Not a good look.

You should always make sure your social media profiles are active. There’s an endless amount of ways you can keep them active, sharing your latest blog posts is just one idea…  With the amount of tools out there available to schedule your social posts, there’s no excuse. Here’s a quick guide on how to turbocharge your social media posts in under 5 minutes.

When you start to post more often, you should see your engagement increase, but if you also apply these tips to your Twitter strategy, you’ll see your follower growth skyrocket and potentially even reach over 2 million impressions in a single month like I did.

5. You ignore negative feedback.
If you want to see success on your social media profiles, you’ll need to stop ignoring feedback. Some companies not only ignore negative feedback, but they’ll also ignore good feedback too, which of course, doesn’t give you a good reputation at all. Especially for ignoring negative feedback because that could lead to your company going viral for the wrong reasons.

September 2013, a Twitter user tweeted @BritishAirways a number of times after the person’s luggage was lost. The airline didn’t respond after two days, so therefore the Twitter user decided to promote his own tweet via Twitter Ads. The tweet received over 25,000 impressions. This is why it’s important to always respond to feedback whether it’s positive or negative.

Conclusion:
So, as you can tell, it’s important that you utilize the right social media networks for your business, as this can be a huge benefit for your brand, as you may have gathered. Just be aware of the risks covered.

God’s Power in Your Life: The Power To Do God’s Work

No matter who you are or where you are, God can empower you to do His work!

God uses Scripture to prepare and equip His people to do every good work.

II Timothy 3:17
What makes you feel powerful? If you have accepted God’s forgiveness and allowed Him to teach you to walk in His ways, now you can show God’s empowerment in your life.

Here are ways you can show His power through your actions:

1. Don’t Depend On Your Own Strength
God’s power is given in His grace; He can work in your weakness. The Apostle Paul worked in the power of God’s guidance only, and is recorded as doing more to help form the early Church than any other Christian. And it was because he depended on God, not on himself. The Lord told him, “My kindness is all you need. My power is strongest when you are weak.” And St Paul added, “So if Christ keeps giving me His power, I will gladly brag about how weak I am (II Corinthians 12:9-10). Are you willing to let God show his power in your weakness?

2. Let God Lead The Way
If you have accepted God’s power, and are ready to do His work, you might be wondering what to do. First, start by praying to God and consult with other believers about finding God’s will before making any decisions.

Here is an example of listening for God’s leading, found in II Samuel chapter 7. Israel’s ancient King David wanted to build a temple to hold the Ark of the Covenant, and at first, the Prophet Nathan approved this project. However, that night, the Lord instructed Nathan to stop King David, for it was not God’s will to have the building at the time. The Lord later allowed David’s son Solomon to construct the Temple.

We too must be careful to listen for God’s leading, and let Him empower us.

3. Understand The Power Of The Holy Spirit
So how will God empower you? The Bible tells us that “God’s Spirit gives us power, love, and self-control” (II Timothy 1:7). The Lord fills His people “with power and His Spirit” (Micah 3:8) whom Jesus promised to send to all those who have accepted Him.

Are you depending on the Holy Spirit for guidance? If so, you can trust the Lord to empower you and guide you in doing His work.

Pray this week:

Dear Lord, allow me to be weak, so Your power can enable me to do Your will! Amen.

After work, is what determines your future! Spend one hour per day doing these 5 things and your life will change forever!

Kalyana SundaramFollowKalyana Sundaram
Business Development Executive – ERP Services(ROW)
You finish work at 6 pm, go to bed at 12 midnight.

Within these six hours, how do you spend them?

Watching TV?

In fact, the activities you do between 6 am and 12 midnight,

the importance of it is beyond your imagination.

Too many people believe that,

your career is determined by the 8 hours of hard work and effort you put at work,

and your future and career progression depend on the boss and the company.

But the reality is that for most people, this thing, you are on your own…..

Read on…

“Cultivation”, it’s forever dependent by yourself.

If you found yourself not progressing in life,

you cannot blame and put the responsibility on your company for not grooming you.

1. What you do every night is important

My major in college was marketing, but I expect to become a designer.

So I practiced day and night,

picking up some freelance work to improve my design skills.

It took me a long time.

When I became a boss, I no longer need to involve myself in design work,

So I went back to the Marketing field.

Every day, when my children are sleeping,

I began learning to gain more knowledge, this again took me a long time,

But I begin to realise my returns.

If I rely on my working hours to gain skills,

then I will never have become a creative director and a product manager,

or like today, teaching MBA students on Marketing.

What I rely on, is myself giving myself “lessons”.

And the most successful people I knew, walked the same path as I am.

I have a friend who is a History graduate,

but he is interested in technical sales,

In the day, he does telemarketing, at night he learns how to code,

Finally, he became the vice president of sales in a startup company.

Now, he’s a CTO.

I have another friend, he received a degree in political science.

But he’s very interested in entrepreneurship.

he learnt a lot of knowledge on how to start up a company,

eventually, he founded a company and sold it,

Now he has reaped the rewards.

For them, what they do between 6 pm till 12 midnight,

is what determined their future.

Clearly, we need to balance life and work.

If you have a wife and children, every night, you have to stay with them.

Even if you are single, you also need a reasonable allocation of time to go to the gym, to meet with friends, or be alone to meditate and so on.

Of course, watching movies, playing games is good.

But there are things you do not need to do.

For example, watching the new season of a Netflix drama,

14 hours per week watching television (This is the average amount of time watching television).

The time spent playing the game Candy Crush.

Or spending time stalking your high school alumni on Facebook,

it does not seem to be good.

So what should you do?

2. Read more, anything will do!

My college mentor was born in Alabama,

A poor African family.

He was admitted to West Point Military Academy, and he became the first person in the family to go college.

Before going to Havard for his MBA, he’s a trained officer.

When I met him, he has already developed his career in the city of Colorado Springs.

I asked him, what’s his biggest success?

He replied, because he kept the habit of reading,

and he never stopped.

He believed that if you want to get what you want in life,

knowledge is the key.

He often asked his interviewees what book are they reading now,

the excellent ones can give an answer immediately.

Reading can give you a good headstart,

this is often what your peers cannot obtain.

Compared to others,

you are more likely to know other industries strategies and tactics,

and that may be helpful to your company.

You can transfer your knowledge within the organization,

create new possibilities for your company.

Moreover, your conversation topics will become more interesting.

Anthony Robbins said:

“If you spend one hour a day to learn about a topic,

a year later, in this regard,

the knowledge you gain will be more than 99.999% of the world’s people.”

Even if you have 30 minutes every night,

each week you can easily read a book.

You may not be an expert, but I promise,

you’ll know more than what your peers know.

3. Do some projects

You can apply the knowledge learnt to real work scenario,

this is only an ideal state.

If your company did not give you this opportunity,

create opportunities for yourself.

You can do some volunteer projects. They can bring you fame.

Working with a team,

you’ll understand how things work.

In the practical application of the industry,

and how it ultimately affect actual customers.

You’ll learn how to perform the task and meet deadlines,

and get feedbacks on what you are doing,

and benefit from it.

When you are not strong enough, these experience may not have any value to you.

But you are still a novice.

these experiences are far more valuable than the miserable pay you are getting.

If you can really convince others of your pockets of fruits of labour,

Then go try it. But do not let these private jobs affect your work.

4. Actively build your connections

In your career path,

a strong network of connections will make everything accelerate.

If you have not set up your own personal connections,

you’ll need to divide a portion of your time to do this.

A strong network of relationships, can enable you:

contact smart friends, and learn their opinions
get information and knowledge that are difficult to obtain
help the company look for more potential partners
or income generating opportunities
Go get to know your work colleague or boss…..

If you are an entrepreneur,

your network connections will be your early customers,

your staffs are a source of capital

rather than go home, or going to a bar,

you should find some inner circles.

There are many small groups which are highly relevant to your career.

You should try to integrate into these circles.

Every week, you can drink coffee together with new friends,

go drinking or have breakfast.

You can also look into everyone’s career developments on LinkedIn.

And establish a network with mentors in those professional industries.

They may be your next job employer, who knows?

Your connections will be your most powerful asset in the workplace.

Since you have time to watch “The Voice of China”,

you have time to build a social network.

5. The CHANGE of your LIFE starts TONIGHT

6 pm to 12 am, you go home, though physically and mentally tired,

you are free to do anything and do not have to take orders from others.

During this time,

you can switch off like switching off your computer at your workplace, switch off your brain.

But you can also do something,

make you smarter, stronger, have a wider network of people.

From the start tonight, take an hour a day to do these things,

I guarantee that after a year,

your career, and life will change.

ShareShare After work, is what determines your future! Spend one hour per day doing these 5 things and your life will change forever!
