What is False Teaching?

False teaching comes in many forms, but these teachings always deny the identity of God.

“This is what the Lord says – your Redeemer and Creator: ‘I am the Lord, who made all things. I alone stretched out the heavens. Who was with me when I made the earth? I expose the false prophets as liars and make fools of fortune-tellers. I cause the wise to give bad advice, thus proving them to be fools.’” Isaiah 44:24-25

False teaching comes in many forms, but these teachings always deny the identity of God. This is how false teaching denies God’s identity:

Denial of Creator God
False teachings often deny Genesis 1:1, which says “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” 2 Peter 3:3-8 even reminds us that in the last days people will purposely “forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed.” Denying God created the heavens and the earth is a false teaching.

Denial of God’s Standards
False teachings change God’s standards. God only requires faith to receive eternal life. But some false teachers say you can save yourself by doing good works. In John 14:6, Jesus tells us “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Your good works can’t get you to God. You can only be saved through faith in Jesus. Psalm 5:4 says “For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness…” Many times, false teaching will also attempt to make sin seem ok. But God hates sin. False teaching disagrees with what God defines as sin, and leads people into a lifestyle that is not pleasing to God.

Denying that Jesus is the Only Way to God
False teachings may say there are many ways to God. Or, that you don’t need God because there is no sin, or judgement, to be saved from. Acts 4:12 says “There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under Heaven by which we must be saved.” That means Jesus is the only way to God, but false teachings do not agree with this truth.

Denial of a Loving God
God is not hateful. The truth is…. “God is Love. God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him.” (1 John 4:8-9). God’s message is clear: He is God, our Creator and He saves us because He loves us so much.

Pray this week:

To know God for who He really is.

The world denies God's standards, and God's Word, and even denies that Jesus is the only Way to salvation… Do you know people who do this? How do you handle that? Talk to a Christian to find out.

An Easter Gift for You

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the key to the Christian faith

“Jesus told her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me, even if he dies, will live, ” John 11:25

During Easter we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This event is the key to understanding the Christian faith. Without Easter morning, what Jesus taught and modeled would only bring us condemnation. “And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.” I Corinthians 15:17 Let’s learn more about the special Easter gift God has for you.

Love
At the time of Jesus’ coming, the Bible already had many detailed predictions about Jesus’ death on the cross. His own words in Matthew 12:40, Mark 8:31 and John 2:19-21 show He knowingly and willingly went to the cross. “No one can take my life from me. I sacrifice it voluntarily…” (John 10:18). His death was not by accident. It was not for His own glory. He died to rescue us from our sins. “God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” (Romans 5:8)

Life
Easter is not just about the death of Jesus. His resurrection was a victory! Because He conquered death, we can be sure of the resurrection He promises for those who believe in Him. “‘Death is swallowed up in victory’…But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:54,57). Jesus’ triumph over death keeps us from spending eternity separated from God.

Hope
Many religious leaders tell of various ways to reach heaven. Yet, no others have shown proof that theirs is the true way. “Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said…After that, he was seen by more than 500 of his followers at one time, most of whom are still alive…” (1 Corinthians 15:3-6).

Jesus predicted His own death and resurrection, and then he accomplished it. He also promised to prepare a place in heaven for all who believe in Him. (John 14:1-6) He Himself is the bridge to eternal life. “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23) Will you accept this Easter Gift for yourself? Pray this week:

Thank you God for the gift of love you gave me through Jesus. I accept Jesus’ death as payment for my sins and I trust in the life and hope that Jesus offers.
